Active Publication Terminating due to Fire DisasterI'm sorry to say that after nearly three years of production, this site and its sister site, committeefordemocracy.org, are going to be taking a significant vacation. As of the first of May it appears that I will be offically homeless until my burned apartment is made habitable again. I am planning on traveling north to Lost Coast in Mendocino County, Ca, for a two week backpacking trip. After that, I'm going to come back to Berkeley, rest and recover for a couple of days, then head to Lake Tahoe and begin walking South, roughly following the PCT. My final destanation depends on high altitude snow conditions. If only the mountain tops and passes are still snow-filled by then, which is highly likely, my goal will be T-Meadows, Yosemite. If the snow is extensive and deep below the passes, my first destination will be Lake Alpine. If getting to Lake Alpine works out, then I will continue South towards Sonora Pass. If the path to Sonora Pass is do-able, I will continue the next segment from Sonora Pass to Tolumne Meadows. And so on. If the conditions permit, I will try to put together my earliest Lake Tahoe to Mount Whitney backpacking trip ever. I will monitor and update the site when possible, but the sites will be effectively idle for the next couple of months. Feel free to join up and publish your take on the corruption that has eaten the heart and soul of our country. Take care!

Life on the Road and Trail
My apartment burned on April 23. I cleaned and stored the remains by May 2, and departed for the North Coast of Ca.
I just returned (5/29)from a 25 day trip through the Lost Coast trails, up through Sinkyone and BLM, and back again, though I swung up through the King's Range on the way back. It was 130+ miles, and the time included spent, 8 days total, hanging with the locals in Petrolia, Shelter Cove, and Fort Bragg.
It was a nice trip, though I encountered five days of powerful storms. But the storms just made it more interesting. The storms bring the water that creates the natural character, and the deep green, of the temperate rainforest that characterizes the southern section of the Lost Coast trail.
The storms made the trip better.
Now, May 29, I have returned to Berkeley for a seven day rest, restore, and resupply, and will shortly depart for Lake Tahoe, to begin a 5 day trip to the Molkumne River and back to Tahoe.
I plan on immediatly following that trip up with a trip from Poison Flat (Carson Range, Eastern Sierra) to the headwaters of the E. Carson.
From there I will exit the mountains through the Wolf Creek Drainage to and through the Marine Cold Weather training site to the Sonora Pass Road.
I should return to Berkeley again in late June.
When I return I will finish preperations for my Summer trip between Lake Tahoe and Mount Whitney. I plan to finish in mid-August, returning not to Berkeley, but to Northern Humboldt for a few weeks of trimming to offset the Summer's expenses.
Thus I will not be online a whole hell of a lot. So have a fine Summer.
Sorry to hear about apartment bro
Hey Al, it's Tom, your old roommate. Sorry to hear about your apt. Hope you didn't lose too much. Do you still have the 'Book of Pain'? Shoot me an e-mail if you can, I still having trouble getting hold of you. Best wishes, Tom "Calfeeni"
