Causes and Purposes of the Initiative

That fundamental political reform is needed in California is obvious; one look at the social, political, economic and environmental crisis our state is facing demonstrates that our state government is dysfunctional. We are facing these social breakdowns and environmental disasters because of the failed policies, corrupted laws, and short-sighted legislation of  our throughly bribed politicians.

These corrupted politicians have sacrificed our health, our educational system, our environment, and our general welfare in service of, and to profit their corporate and special interest bribers. This has been done not only at the expense of the people they were charged to represent, but it has cost us our democracy itself.

Political corruption fueled by greed and bribery is the real reason we have embarked on a wildly irresponsible policy of unlimited growth. California has doubled it's population during the past 35 years. It is no accident that our state's population has grown far beyond our social infrastructure's ability to support.

This has been very profitable for our politician's corporate sponsors. They have used our state's schools, hospitals, roads and social services to subsidize and increase the already massive profits that our irresponsible growth has brought them.

Our growth and development has exceeded our water and energy supplies, driving prices for all commodities through the roof, creating very profitable shortages to pad the profits of the biggest political bribers. At the same time that our growth has increased prices, it  has significantly cheapened labor, and stripped California's labor of retirement and medical benefits. As commodities have gotten more expensive, the wages of labor have dropped to 3rd world levels, and the profits of the biggest political bribers have shot through the roof.

After giving the biggest bribers a massive supply of cheap labor, and driving the prices of everything through the roof, our corrupted politicians let their bribers pocket as profits the just taxes that would have maintained even a primitive level of competence in our schools and hospitals. Our schools and hospitals are unable  to educate and medicate our citizens.

Our politicians' response to the educational and medical crisis they created was to privatize medicine, and leaving the schools to rot on the vine. The only job our bribed politicians have done well during the last 35 years was to assist our corporate thieves in separating and moving the wealth of our state from a well supported middle-class infrastructure into their own pockets.

During this period of massive growth, open corruption, and accepted thievery, it is not just our social infrastructure that has been destroyed. California's natural resources have been drained, and our seasons have fundamentally changed. California's environment, and all the species inhabiting it, have been seriously damaged, sacrificed, to subsidize the profits of our political bribers.

During the last 30 years our state's wealth has been concentrated into the top layers of business and society, resulting in the disappearance of our middle-class. The politicians have intentionally destroyed our middle class  to subsidize the profits of their bribers. unfortunately, when the middle class disappeared, the democratic restraints of the middle class on our corporate elite disappeared along with it. Our politicians of both parties represent the biggest corporate and special interests that deliver them bribes, not the voters.

Our democracy has been killed to subsidize the profits of the bribers, and they have profited handsomely. At this point in our history the politicians monopolized all the political power in our state, and their special interest sponsors  have monopolized  virtually all the wealth in our state. unfortunately for us, the massive profits generated during the last 30 years depended on irresponsible political policies that put corporate profits before the health of our schools, hospitals, roads, our environment, or our natural resources.

If we want our government to give back the schools, hospitals, and benefits they stole from us, we will have to end the stranglehold of bribery that the special interests and their paid political and media servants have on the neck of our government.

There is only one solution to this problem. We must change how, and who, makes the political decisions in our state. Our corporate and special interest politicians have failed. It's time to give the reigns of power back to the voters. Then we can fix our schools and hospitals, as well as our mountains, rivers, and forests.

Our corporate politicians and their rotten policies will wither on the vine when we cut off the corporate bribes that keep them in power. Join us to insist that our next generation of politicians will be required to win elections based on the support and contributions of their voters, rather than the bribes of the special interests.
