The Monthly Review: April 2008

This April American Political Corruption has been dealt severe blows both domestically and abroad.

Pakistan: Democracy. To our great chagrin, at the end of March our dictatorship in Pakistan had been checked by a democratic election. We immediatly sent a delegation to try to prop up Musharraf's tottering dictatorship, which failed.

The new democratic parlimentary majority immediatly demanded the US cease attacks in Pakistan, and began cutting peace deals with the Taliban. It appears that we can blame democracy, and our cruel policies, for adding Pakistan to our losses in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Impending Famine: Instability and food riots are deepening around the world. We are seeing the opening acts of a global famine as our massive population growth, changes in the seasons, and the failure of our globalized food system collide. These factors should combine to create a global famine by October.

US War Crimes: Torture. The second,  previously secret, Yoo torture memo of 2003 authorizing the military to torture finally surfaced. A few days after the 2003 Yoo memo surfaced, ABC reported that the top figures in the administration did not just approve of the torture policy, but were in direct contact with CIA torture chambers in the field. This report, when combined with an earlier ABC report prove that high level American cabinent officers directly participated in actual real-time torture sessions.

US Domestic Crimes: Illegal Searches. In addition to the illegal NSA program to capture all domestic communications in the US, Democracy Now reported that the FBI also has the ability to capture all American domestic communications without judicial check or Congressional oversight.

The Flame of Shame in SF: The torch came to SF. Check out the view from the ground: see the pictures.

The Economy: Housing prices in California have dropped 20% in one year. Sales and prices are dropping like a rock, and appear to be picking up speed, rather than moderating. The stock market persists in ignoring the massive rise in energy and food prices, the massive debt of the US, and the radical loss in the value of the dollar. Our market based on the perception of endless greed, growth, and profits will not last.

Dems War: Iraq. The dems are finally emerging as what they have been since Vietnam: the war party. The Dems under Pelosi have added insult to injury by insisting that Iraq pay the costs of our illegal invasion and occupation. The Dems are forming a massive war funding bill that grants bush almost twice the funds he is asking for, so the war will be funded without interruption six months into the next president's term.

Ongoing US project: The Destruction of Nature. The US continues to lead the world in altering the seasons. Two new Environmental destruction pages have been published, #9 and #10. Environmental Destruction page #8 was published on March 30. Topics range from freak weather, the food crisis, the salmon crisis, political intereference in science, and the latest reports on CO2, methane, and global tempetures.

The Presidential Election: Check out matt gonzales' analysis of Obama, the lat's story on Obama's legal career, and his relationship with a scummy political player. It is ironic that when Obama's Minister calls it like it is, Obama gets nervous. Billery, on the other hand, is a confirmed liar, and the people know it.
