Truth only comes with Justice

Apparently war crimes and crimes against our Constitution that are committed by our leaders are no longer punished. Instead we get a "truth" commission, if anything.

Senator seeks Bush-era "truth commission",

reuters, 2-9-09

What this really means is that the only "truth" worth mentioning is that Bush's criminal powers have already been made permenant presidential powers.

The Holder and Panetta hearings revealed that Obama is doing exactly the same thing that Bush did: Claiming that torture and kidnapping are not permitted while simultanously claiming the right to practice torture and kidnapping in "extrodinary circumstances."

Having a "truth" commission will not take the power to torture out of executive branch. Only a complete and through prosecution of all the war criminals in our government will do that.

A "truth" commission will not punish the torture criminals, and will not take these powers, that Obama's Administration has already claime for itself, off the table.

A "truth" commission will do exactly the opposite, telling the government that it can commit crimes against citizens and humanity with impunity, and its greatest punishment would be a "truth" commission.

I find that disgusting.

Our governt can only demonstrate that the president possesses no extrodianary powers, and all uses of kidnapping and torture by the President, or any part of the government, is a crime that will always be prosecuted to the fullest extent of domestic and internationl law.

This "Truth" commission idea is a lot of bullshit. The serious nature of these crimes demands that the head of the Judiciary Committee take his responsibility to uphold the most vital elements of our Constituion and the basis of our most important laws a hell of a lot more seriously than by blessing these crimes with a "Truth" commission.

Law and precedent demands oversight and investigation, not a merry little "truth" circus. But if leahey cannot demote his duty to defend our country into a "Truth" commission, then he must do his duty and begin hearings, and a serious investigation, into the Presidential Crimes and Abuses of Power we have all just witnessed.

And if it makes him feel better, Leahy can call it a "responsibility" commission, where those who committed crimes against our country and Constitution take responsibility for their action.

And it appears that the last time we tried people for waterboarding, we convicted them and hung them.

And the last time a President spied on Americans we impeached him.

This shows just how far we have fallen.
